Permission granted for new medical centre in Swindon

Specialist developers CityMed Investments LLP have secured planning permission to build a state of the art medical centre in Swindon. The development will be the first of its kind in the South of England.

The new specialist medical facility will be built on a 1 acre site located at the entrance to Kembrey Park, next to a Premier Inn and Brewers Fayre and close to a recently opened Next Generation Healthclub. The building will extend to 18,000 sq ft net over two floors, with dedicated on site car parking. CityMed originally agreed terms to purchase the site in autumn 2007 from Highcross, subject to the grant of planning consent for the development. This is the fourth site acquired by CityMed for development in the last 12 months. They have also purchased sites for proposed medical centres in Leeds, Warrington and Harrogate.

The new centres have generated substantial interest, leading to CityMed adapting development plans to suit specific requirements from medical providers looking for new accommodation. Indeed, their proposal at Warrington has led to separate plans for the development of a health centre for a leading local GP practice.

Paul Jones, managing director at CityMed commented: "We are delighted to have secured planning consent for our site in Swindon. We have already received a good level of early enquiries from various medical service providers for space within the new development. “We are now planning the development of the site and a full marketing campaign through our Swindon based joint agents.”

Nigel Gibbons, partner at Alder King said: “This is a massive coup for Swindon. The new development will create new jobs for the town, as well as providing modern facilities to attract specialist medical services, a number of which are not currently represented in Swindon.” Alder King acted for CityMed in the site acquisition. Matthews and Goodman of London acted for Highcross, the vendors of the site. Alder King has been retained in the ongoing marketing campaign for the new development, alongside Loveday and Loveday of Swindon.
