Work has started to build a new doctors’ surgery at the former Princess Margaret Hospital site in Old Town. The £1.3m healthcare centre is being built by construction company Morgan Ashurst, formerly Bluestone, based at Ashworth Road in Swindon and will also include a pharmacy within the building.

Sean O’Connor from Surgery Developments and Mark Lewis of Lloyds Pharmacy donned their hard hats and hi-visibility vests to help lay the first bricks, with Greg Wells, Morgan Ashurst area manager and architect Will Durman of CMS Bath keeping a close eye on their work.

“It’s always an exciting time on site when work begins,” said Greg Wells. “We’re thrilled to have been awarded this project and with considerable expertise in the health sector I’m confident we will provide local people in Swindon with an excellent new facility.

“We hope to complete the project with the minimum amount of disruption caused to local residents.”

The surgery is due to open in March 2008.
