Atkins aims high on regional projects

Atkins, the largest multidisciplinary consultancy in Europe, has appointed Martin Pease as managing director of its design solutions division in the South West and Wales.
Martin was previously a director at architecture firm Stride Treglown, where he was responsible for the commercial sector. He has also worked for Richard Meier Architects in Los Angeles on the Getty Centre Arts Complex, and for Michael Hopkins in London on the new Glyndebourne Opera House.
Atkins' Design Solutions division focuses on innovative and appropriate building designs and encompasses architecture, engineering and building services. Martin will be responsible for some 250 staff based in Bristol, Exeter, Winchester and Cardiff.
He says: “I intend to develop Atkins' position in the region’s market place and raise awareness of the fact that this is a major local business which also operates on a global level.

“We need to demonstrate our strengths and show that we are a responsive, experienced and talented company of designers who are committed to helping build better places for people to work, learn, live, shop and play.”
Atkins has been involved in many high profile projects across the region including a 100,000 sq ft office development at Aztec West in Bristol and Plot ND4 at Temple Quay Central in Bristol.

Recently completed projects in the area include works to Exeter University and the design and project management of the new Cornwall United Mines landfill site near Redruth.
In Wales, completed projects include the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff and the recently opened footbridge in Usk. The company recently won a Welsh Housing Design Award for the design and development of a small housing complex in Penarth, South Wales and a Design Excellence Award. Plans are also in place for future developments, such as an exclusive residential area in Cardiff Bay.
